Gated Communities and Segregation in The Tortilla Curtain by T.C.Boyle - Essay Example Despite the fact that isolation dependent on race, ethnicity, religion, and so forth., is currently unlawful, there are still a few practices among the residents like the presence of gated networks that cause isolation and bigotry. Albeit, one area of individuals sees gated networks as a plausible and pragmatic method of living, different areas see it as ââ¬Ëislandsââ¬â¢ which advance isolation. This issue of gated networks frames an unobtrusive however a key piece of the novel, The Tortilla Curtain composed by T.C. Boyle and distributed by Viking Press in 1995. Boyle is a ââ¬ËDistinguished Professorââ¬â¢ of English at the University of Southern California and lives in the Santa Barbara. He has composed more than 12 books just as in excess of 100 short stories winning, with huge numbers of his works mirroring the issues and way of life of individuals living in California including The Tortilla Curtain. ââ¬Å"The Southern California author T. C. Boyle catches the detachme nt that marks day by day life in Los Angeles.â⬠(Fuller, Bridges and Pai 145). Boyle sets his novel in the Topanga Canyon where the lives of two couples, who live an altogether various ways of life, cross each other with appalling and at a similar intriguing outcomes. The principle hero couple, Delaney, a delicate essayist about nature and Kyra Mossbacher, a fanatical realtor, move in to a recently gated network settled among the normal environmental factors called Arroyo Blanco. The other couple is the Mexican illicit workers, Candido and his pregnant spouse America Rincon, who enter the American fringes wrongfully needing to accomplish the American Dream of a prosperous life, however live in a horrendous condition in a temporary camp somewhere down in the Topanga Canyon. At the point when a monstrosity auto crash including Delaney and Candido occurs, it prompts further cooperations between the couples with their restricting universes meeting in a risky and deplorable way. The collaborations between the couples mostly emerge due the setting of the gated network. Boyle paints the image of a carefully accommodating gated network, where all the houses were white with orange rooftops. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦lay the massed orange tile housetops of Arroyo Blancoâ⬠(Boyle 74). The private network gives a feeling of selectiveness. The idea of a gated network, with a property holders affiliation, is to give a sheltered neighborhood all the offices. 5 Tips for Finding the Right Bad Credit Loan
5 Tips for Finding the Right Bad Credit Loan 5 Tips for Finding the Right Bad Credit Loan 5 Tips for Finding the Right Bad Credit LoanThe smarter you are when looking for a bad credit loan, the better positioned youll be to find the loan that works best for you.Shopping for a personal loan isnât easy, even when you have good credit. Add bad credit to the mix, however, and the difficulty level ratchets up pretty severely. While there are some bad credit loans and no credit check loans that make for good short-term financial solutions, there are many others that could easily trap you in a recurring cycle of debt.In order to find the right bad credit loan for your situation, you need to know what to look for. You need to know how to look at interest charges versus APRs and how to compare payment terms versus your monthly budget. Thatâs why weâve put together this handy bad credit loan guide to help ensure that youâre asking the right questions in order to find the right loan.1. Ask friends and family first. If you havenât stopped to consider this option, then you sh ouldâ"wellâ"stop and consider it! While borrowing money from a friend or family member can be deeply awkward, it sure beats borrowing money from a bad credit lender. The key to borrowing money in a situation like this is communication. You need to sit down with the person youâre requesting money from and make everything crystal clear. Why do you need this money? How much do you need? What other options have you considered? What kind of repayment plan makes sense? And while itâs often the case that friends and family members donât charge each other interest, you should be prepared for this to be part of the deal. But even if they do charge you interest, the rates are probably going to be much lower than the average 400 percent APRs that you see from a typical payday loan or cash advance.Make sure that both you and your lender understand the terms of your agreement before they hand over the money. In fact, you would do well to get the agreement in writing. If that sounds like a big hassle, you should check out this personal loan agreement template that we created to help people in situations exactly like this one.2. Shop around. When people are borrowing bad credit loans, itâs often because they have been blindsided by an emergency expense or another financial shortfall. When your car breaks down, you just want to get it fixed, pronto. The last thing on your mind is taking the time to shop around for the perfect deal. You need money, and you need it now.But hereâs the thing: You should take that extra time to shop around for the best bad credit loan you can find. Loan offers can differ depending on what state you live in, so do some quick research to figure out what kind of interest rates and payment terms are possible for youâ"and then compare that to the offers youâre actually seeing. The more loans you compareâ"including online loans and loans from storefront lendersâ"the more likely you are to find the best possible loan for you. On the flip sid e, settling on the very first offer you see is a great way to end up with a loan thatâs dragging down your financial picture instead of helping to prop it up. An extra hour or so is rarely going to matter in the grand scheme of things, so take your time and see whatâs really available.Even better, do your research now so that you can act quickly when an emergency expense arises later. Depending on the nature of the situation, you might find yourself under a great deal of pressure to act quickly. If you already have a bad credit loan on file that you know works best for you, it will save you time and it will save you from a financial headache down the road.3. Do they perform soft credit checks?Unlike regular personal loans, many bad credit loans donât perform a hard credit check when you apply. Thatâs why theyâre often referred to as âno credit check loans.â But thereâs a difference between checking your credit score and checking your ability to repay, and it could al so mean the difference between a loan that helps your finances and one that hurts them.Bad credit lenders that check your ability to repay will often run some kind soft inquiry on your credit history and/or use a process to verify your income. They take these steps to ensure that you can actually afford the loan that youâre applying for. In many ways, itâs very similar to the process that traditional lenders use with their customers.True no credit check lenders, on the other hand, do not take any steps to verify your income or look into your credit history. And because they do not do anything to check whether or not you can afford the loan youâre attempting to borrow, the odds are much higher that youâll end up buried under a pile of high-interest debt. Many no credit check lenders offer short-term bad credit loans like payday loans, cash advances, and title loans, while most soft credit check lenders offer longer-term bad credit installment loans. Keep this in mind when youâ re shopping around and youâll be well on your way to finding the right bad credit loan for you.4. Consider payment size. When people think of payday loans, they usually think about the fact that they have very short repayment terms. Whereas traditional personal loans usually have terms measured in years, payday loan terms are measured in a matter of weeks. In fact, the average payday loan has a repayment term of only 14 days.Short terms might seem great, as they mean youâll be getting out debt faster, but thatâs not necessarily the case: When considering a loanâs repayment term, you should also be considering the size of its payments. Many short-term no credit check loans have lump sum repayment structures, which means that you pay the loan off all at once.Lump sum terms can actually make these loans more difficult to pay. Think about it: If you borrowed a $300 two-week payday loan with a 15 percent interest charge, that would give you only 14 days before you had to make a single payment of $345. Is that kind of payment really something you can afford, or would it force you to take out another payday loan to cover your other bills?Installment loans, on the other hand, come with smaller, regularly scheduled payments that let you pay the loan off gradually. Do the math and calculate how much money you can afford on each payment: Even if a short-term loan seems cheaper than a longer-term installment loan, a lump sum payment thatâs too big for your budget means it might not be.5. Read their reviews. If your opinion on a company is based solely on their advertisements, then youâre doing it wrong. Ads are where a company puts its best face forward. Customer reviews, on the other hand, give you an idea of what working with them is really like. Before borrowing money from a company, see what their actual customers have to say.Visit sites like LendingTree and Google to see what kind of customer reviews the business has received. You can also check out their Facebook page to see what kinds of comments are being left and how theyâre being resolved. See if the company has a BBB page; if they do, what kind of grade do they have? When customers complain, are their claims being handled?Borrow now, plan for later. When youâre borrowing money, there is no perfect way to protect yourself from risk. You could do everything right and still end up defaulting on your loanâ"possibly for reasons that were entirely beyond your control. But following these five tips will help you make the best decision you can. From there, the rest is up to you.And in the future, the best way to deal with an unexpected bill or financial shortfall is to be prepared. That means creating a budget, building your savings, and improving your credit score. Nursing Theorists - 1257 Words
A BRIEF STUDY OF NURSING THEORIES ACCORDING TO FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE, JEAN WATSON AND MADELEINE LEININGER TOLULOPE ADEDIWURA MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY ABSTRACT Nursing as a profession is based on concrete (scientific, philosophical, behavioral, social, and humanities among others), concepts and theories by past and current nursing theorists. These theorists have helped shape the profession from 19th century till date. New theories are emerging due to advance in health care, as off-shoot of previous theories and also as addition to suit present day application. This paper shall look at the works (theories) of Florence Nightingale; Environmental theory, Jean Watson; Human caring theory, and Madeleine Leininger; Culture care diversity andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦(2011), Jean Watsonââ¬â¢s theoretical framework lies in carative factors, transpersonal caring relationship, and caring moment. This implies basically that the core of nursing is in caring and other qualities of nursing as a profession builds on it. Her assumptions of caring affirms that in all we do to assist a client, caring is the most important. She claimed that without caring, curing cannot effectively occur. Gonzalo (2011), refers to caring as being more ââ¬Å"healthogenicâ⬠than curing because it integrates biophysical knowledge with knowledge of human behavior to generate or promote health and to provide ministrations to those who are ill. He also concluded in his review of Jean Watsonââ¬â¢s work that ââ¬Ëthe science of caring is complementary to the science of curingââ¬â¢. MSUââ¬â¢s department of nursing associates with Jean Watsonââ¬â¢s human caring theory as pointed out in the ââ¬Å"holistic healthâ⬠aspect of its theoretical constructs. This section strongly reflect the ideas of Jean Watson. Pros of the theory * It presents distinct difference between nursing and other health care professions * It is logical and easy to apply to various practice situations * It presents nurses with a good view at nursing Cons of the theory * Caring alone isnââ¬â¢t enough as the health care system now incorporates technology in clientââ¬â¢s care. Therefore, with the caring model and its processes, nurses need to find a blend where technology has its place. Big Two Hearted River, Part I, By Ernest Hemingway
Success comes only to those who stand firm throughout the trials and tribulations the world has to offer, as many people come to realize through the gaining of their personal life experience. In ââ¬Å"Big Two-Hearted River, Part Iâ⬠, Ernest Hemingway utilizes figurative language such as symbolism, imagery, and metaphors in order to impart and emphasize the importance of oneââ¬â¢s determination to endure the challenges of existence in relation to their overall prosperity. Readers are led to reflect on how persevering through the negative experiences in oneââ¬â¢s life can ultimately lead to positive experiences, as well as the role perseverance plays in the lifelong search for stability. According to Hemingway, the only method of attaining trueâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It is unclear whether or not they will stay that way permanently, but Nick has hope that they will overcome their unfortunate situation; when he wonders how long they will be stained, Nick is insinuating that there will eventually come a day, be it in weeks or years, that the grasshoppers will return to their natural state. Hemingway uses this metaphor to parallel our perception of Nick himself. The trauma Nick has endured throughout his life has impacted him as well as his identity significantly, but there is hope and the promise of a better future if he is willing to withstand the burden in the meantime. This sentiment is echoed by Nick when he lets go of the grasshopper, instructing it to ââ¬Å"fly away somewhereâ⬠(212). The message conveyed here is that life goes on; though the grasshoppers are sullied by their experiences, as they might be for a while, there is a way for them to be free and thus, there must be a way for Nick to be free as well. The rewards that follow in the wake of a negative or traumatic event are earned by the mere fact that an individual was not willing to be swayed from their path or to give up simply on the basis that it was difficult. Nick himsel f sums it up rather nicely when he states that heââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"...got a right to eat this kind of stuff, if [heââ¬â¢s] willing to carry itâ⬠(215) - referring to, of course, his backpack full of food and supplies that heââ¬â¢d been shouldering forShow MoreRelated Ernest Hemingway Essay1313 Words à |à 6 Pages Ernest Hemingway nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Ernest Hemingway was a great American author. Postal Rule of Acceptance Essay Example
Postal Rule of Acceptance Paper Four main justifications of Postal Acceptance Rule i. ââ¬ËAd infinitumââ¬â¢ Justification Postal rule had existed almost for 200 years and the post had been creating problems for people which the courts are obliged to solve them logically. Why it had been creating so many problems for people and that we will be discussing later on. For now letââ¬â¢s look at the four main justifications for postal rule of acceptance. It came from Treitel and he believes that the four main justifications are for the creation of postal rule. First of all, the first justification is the ââ¬Å"Ad Infinitumâ⬠justification where its main rationale is that acceptance by post has to be valid on posting because if there were no postings which mean there is no contract formed. Based on the case of Adam v Lindsell, the defendant actually mail the offer of selling wool to plaintiff and the plaintiff was requested on mailing back to the defendant. Unfortunately there was an error in the offered price and plaintiff did not receive it. We can thus conclude that the defendant had not receive the letter of acceptance and therefore the defendant assume that the plaintiff did not want to accept his offer so he sold the wool to a third party. There was actually a contract exists before the sale of the wool because acceptance made right after the mail is being mailed. Therefore, the defendant was liable in breach of contract. In this case, it might go on ad infinitum because once mail is being posted which means that acceptance is being made. Based on the case of Brogden v Directors of Metropolitan Railway Co, there was a contract sent by the defendant (Directors of Metropolitan Railway) to the plaintiff (Brogden) regarding the contract. The plaintiff agreed the contract by signing it and return to the defendant. The defendant then filled in the blanks without informing the plaintiff about the acceptance. Since there is no acceptance being communicated between the both parties, the plaintiff did not supply the company with coals. Thus, there was subsequently a dispute arose that whether the written agreement was valid. Although the action of communication of acceptance had not been showed clearly, in fact the written agreement was valid despite no acceptance being informed. Reason being both parties had already agreed on the terms of the contract without any objections. In the real world, we do not see an offeror consistently making an offer to people, and subsequently this justification seems to be attempting to affect a useful acceptance rule rather than providing any real rationale for the postal rule.
